Certification information

This course provides general WHMIS worker education. Under Ontario law, your employer remains responsible for workplace-specific information, instruction and procedures related to the actual hazardous products used at your workplace — including site-specific safe handling, storage, disposal and emergency procedures. An online WHMIS course does not replace that employer-provided training.

Frequently asked questions

Does WHMIS expire?

There’s no universal legislated expiry date for WHMIS certificates, but employers must review their WHMIS program — and worker familiarity — regularly, and refresher education is standard practice when products, procedures or regulations change. Many employers require periodic retraining; follow your employer’s policy.

It satisfies the general education component. Your employer must add workplace-specific training for the products you actually handle. If your employer has questions about what they need to provide, we’re happy to point them to the right resources.

Most employers accept online general WHMIS education, but acceptance is the employer’s decision — confirm with yours if you’re unsure.

It becomes available for download as soon as you complete the course and its knowledge check.
