Basic First Aid is Ontario’s entry-level workplace first aid certification — the course formerly commonly called Emergency First Aid. This blended 8-hour program lets you complete the theory online at your own pace, then build real skills in a hands-on, four-hour practical session with an instructor.
Basic First Aid + CPR/AED prepares you to recognize and respond to the most common emergencies at work, at home and in the community. You’ll learn how to manage an emergency scene, assess a patient, perform CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), respond to choking, control severe bleeding, and care for wounds — then demonstrate those skills in guided scenarios.
The practical session is hands-on from start to finish: skills stations, instructor coaching and realistic scenarios, not four hours of lecture.
On successful completion, participants receive certification in Basic First Aid + CPR/AED, delivered using a WSIB-recognized curriculum through First Aid Responder’s authorized training-provider relationship. Basic First Aid is equivalent to the former Emergency First Aid under Ontario’s workplace first aid program. If your employer or school requires verification of a specific certification level, contact us before booking.
Requirements differ by employer, college, placement and profession. Confirm your required level before booking — contact us if you\u2019d like help, or read our Basic vs. Intermediate guide.
